Start with the gap.
When Chinese feels difficult, another worksheet may not be the answer. Understanding where your child gets stuck is the first step towards finding support that helps.

Beyond the test score
Your child is trying.
Why is Chinese still a struggle?
A child can memorise a spelling list on Monday and struggle to recognise the same words in a passage on Friday. Another may understand a story when you explain it, yet stare at a blank page when asked to write. These are different difficulties. They need different kinds of help.
Chinese Tuition Singapore is an information portal for parents deciding whether extra support would be useful—and what that support should involve. We explain how language gaps develop, what purposeful teaching looks like and how to judge progress beyond the next examination mark. We do not run classes or rank tuition centres.
In an English-dominant routine, Chinese may appear mainly in textbooks and homework. There may be few relaxed opportunities to hear expressions, try them aloud or encounter them in a different context. This does not mean the family has done anything wrong. It helps explain why a willing student can still find using the language effortful.
Recognise the difficulty
Look at the task, not just the grade.
“I know the words, but not the answer.”
Recognising characters is only part of reading. A student may need help following a sentence, connecting events or explaining what a character's actions reveal.
“I have an idea, but I cannot write it.”
The obstacle may be retrieving suitable vocabulary, forming a clear sentence or organising a paragraph. More model compositions alone may leave that obstacle untouched.
“Please don't ask me to speak.”
Some students need time to rehearse, make mistakes and receive a useful response. Chinese oral tuition should provide actual conversation, not only answers to memorise.
Support through school
Different stages.
Different priorities.
Choose support for the subject your child actually takes and the skill they need next.
Connect vocabulary with meaning, build sentences and practise comprehension with guidance.
Secondary & Higher ChineseDevelop more precise responses, coherent writing and greater independence with unfamiliar texts.
JC ChineseMatch support to H1 Chinese or H2 Chinese Language and Literature; they are distinct subjects.
The essential read
What good tuition should change.
Suitable Chinese tuition begins with an identifiable need. It makes the missing skill explicit, gives the student supported practice and checks whether they can use it independently. A corrected answer is a starting point; the real test is what happens on the next unfamiliar task.

Choose the teaching,
not just the timetable.
When comparing primary Chinese tuition in Singapore, PSLE Chinese tuition or support for an older student, ask what the tutor would work on first and why. Look for explanations your child understands, feedback they can act on and a workload they can sustain.
Tuition is worth considering when it meets a real learning need. A child already progressing with school support and regular practice may not need another weekly lesson.
