Confirm Chinese, Foundation Chinese or Higher Chinese
SEAB's 2026 PSLE list identifies Chinese Language (0005), Higher Chinese Language (0015) and Foundation Chinese Language (0025) separately. Confirm the pupil's subjects and examination year before choosing materials. Do not assume that a course described as PSLE Chinese covers every pathway or uses the same assessment format.
For a future examination year, check that year's official format when available. A provider's older worksheet or promotional headline is not enough to establish the current requirements.
How to plan PSLE Chinese revision
Bring a recent piece of writing, comprehension work and the school's feedback. Ask the tutor to separate a knowledge gap from a task-management problem. Does the pupil misunderstand the passage, select the wrong evidence, struggle to express the answer, or run out of time despite understanding?
A practical sequence is to explain one skill, try it with guidance, revise the response and then attempt a different question independently. Introduce timing when the pupil understands the task. Keep an error log with the cause and the correction; a list of marks alone does not explain what to practise next.
PSLE Chinese oral and listening practice
For the subject's applicable oral tasks, look for regular speaking time and feedback on meaning as well as delivery. Ask how the teacher responds when the pupil gives a memorised answer that does not fit the question. A useful practice conversation includes a relevant idea, an explanation and a follow-up question.
For listening practice, discuss why an answer fits the recording and which detail was missed. Replaying without reflection may not resolve the difficulty. Check the official subject format rather than applying one course's tasks to every PSLE Chinese pathway.
PSLE Chinese composition and comprehension practice
First, revise the original response so the pupil understands the correction. Then use a new topic or passage to find out whether the skill transfers. For composition, ask the pupil to explain the purpose of each paragraph. For comprehension, ask which part of the passage supports the answer.
Our Chinese skills guide provides original practice examples. The Higher Chinese guide helps families keep the additional subject's needs distinct.
Compare regular lessons, holiday programmes and intensives
A short programme may suit a tightly defined target, such as revising a recurring writing error. It should not promise to repair every foundation gap in a few sessions. Ask what can realistically be covered, whether the teacher will assess starting work and what feedback the pupil will receive.
Check the total teaching hours, homework load and missed-lesson policy before paying. Use the fee comparison guide to compare equivalent lesson lengths. Leave enough time to use feedback rather than filling every available slot with another lesson.

Common questions
Can PSLE Chinese tuition guarantee an AL grade?
No. A provider cannot reliably guarantee an individual examination result. Ask for a specific teaching plan and evidence of your child's independent progress.
Should my child memorise model compositions?
Models can help a pupil notice structure and language. The tutor should also check whether the pupil can select and adapt ideas for an unfamiliar task, rather than reproduce a memorised essay.
